Collective Action: Reducing Alzheimer’s Growth and Rethinking Prevention
To mark World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21, a collective of professionals from the healthcare, community, academic, life sciences and public health sectors, as well as caregivers and the general public, joined forces to raise awareness among Quebecers of the prevalence of major neurocognitive disorders (MND) in our society. In an open letter, they put forward a number of proposals to reduce the growth of Alzheimer’s disease, and encourage progress in care and prevention for those diagnosed and their families.
While 80% of Quebecers believe that neurocognitive disorders are a normal part of aging, several studies show that 45% of cases of AD are associated with modifiable risk factors.
