Caregivers play an indispensable role in the well-being of people living with a neurocognitive disorder, such as Alzheimer\u2019s disease. Being a caregiver means providing essential support to a loved one and helping them through the challenges of everyday life. At the Alzheimer Society of Montreal, we recognize your role\u2019s importance and take a person-centred approach, both for your benefit and that of the person you are caring for. A human approach imbued with respect and kindness. Our goal is to guide you in your responsibilities as a caregiver while recognizing your invaluable contribution to the life journey of the person you support.<\/p>

If you are a caregiver, our services aim to provide you with a supportive space to share experiences, learn about the disease, and equip you with practical strategies to help you manage your role better in your daily life.<\/p>

Helping someone living with a neurocognitive disorder presents many challenges. Our counsellors are available in person and remotely to offer free and confidential consultations to assess your needs and provide you with information, support and resources.<\/p>

Weekly Support Group <\/h2><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/path><\/svg><\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/path><\/svg><\/span>\n\t\t<\/span>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/summary>\n\t\t\t\t

Throughout the year, our team offers weekly support group sessions for caregivers in French and English. This group plans a weekly two-hour session for 6 weeks. Topics covered include neurocognitive disorders, adapting communication, understanding reactive behaviours, how to take care of yourself as a caregiver, and community resources available in the area.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

After completing a series of weekly meetings, caregivers are invited to join a monthly group, with sessions lasting 10 months. This allows them to maintain peer support and talk about their experiences. Topics covered reflect participants\u2019 lives and needs.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Sharing Room offers different virtual groups to care partners of people living with a neurocognitive disorder (PLWD). These sharing spaces allow loved ones of people diagnosed to talk about the challenges they face and find comfort, a listening ear and understanding.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tArt Therapy Groups provide a safe space for participants to express themselves and share life experiences through various artistic mediums. Participants are encouraged to explore their identity, their role as caregivers, and the emotions associated with this role.
